Senior Women

Our Senior Women's program consists of 2 teams in the Edmonton Rugby Union, 1st and 2nd Division. Our women play together as a team and have strong friendships off and on the field.
Our program has helped prepare our players to complete at the rep level with many going on to play for the Edmonton Gold, the Prairies Wolfpack, and Team Canada.
We are continually trying to improve and expand our teams through new and experienced players. We welcome all who enjoy the game and would like to try it for the first time. Contact us for details.

The women's side of the Nor’Westers was founded in 1993 by Harry Ainlay High School rugby players with the encouragement and support of the men’s team, many of whom, like Al Hancock, were our first coaches.
Founding members Kim Bentz (Tomm), Laura Braun, and Jill Hastings (Schulte) quickly got to recruiting, and in the following years, the team’s longest serving coach, Nick Dent, recruited where ever he could, even managing to convince members of the Nor’Wester volleyball team to give rugby a try.
In the early years, it was a challenge to be successful against the established women's teams in the province, but with the spirit of true Nor’Westers, the women’s team built a reputation of digging deep and never giving up in the face of adversity.
